During my recent escape to Château de Passières, nestled at the foot of Mont Aiguille, I found a delightful retreat that encapsulated the essence of the French countryside while offering a rich tapestry of history. The rooms, furnished in a charming period style with views of the Vercors, provided comfort after long days of exploration, although do not expect modern luxuries. The seasonal outdoor pool was a refreshing oasis, perfect for unwinding while soaking in stunning mountain vistas, and after a day of hiking in the Nature Park of Vercors, we enjoyed traditional dishes expertly prepared in the inviting restaurant. A welcome drink upon arrival and the amiable staff ensured we felt right at home, though a nod to your fjord-based Netflix can be met with the reality of limited WiFi in the public spaces, which may require some strategic planning. While it may lack the hustle of city life, the serene atmosphere and the breathtaking landscape around the chateau make for a delightful city break. I highly recommend this enchanting place for anyone seeking a scenic getaway steeped in history and culinary delights, just be sure to pack your hiking boots!
